CANCELLATION OF VE EVENTS IN BRIXHAM 8TH -10TH MAY

It is with great sadness that the Board of Brixham Future CIC has decided to cancel the above event.

The National Celebrations have also been cancelled. The decision has been made given the government wish to maintain social distancing and prohibit public gatherings as part of the lock-down strategy to tackle COVID 19.

The Board wishes to express its gratitude to everyone who made such tremendous efforts especially the Royal British Legion (Brixham Branch); the armed forces `family` in the bay; the Orpheus Male Voice Choir; the Brixham Town Band; the Women`s Institute; the friends of Brixham Library; the Rotary Club; the Brixham Conservative Club; the Brixham Chamber of Commerce; the Brixham Middles Street Traders and numerous individual businesses; MDL Marina; the Baptist, Methodist and Church of England; IMS Marketing & Brixham Town Council etc.

The Board believe the 3 day VE Celebrations would have been a great community occasion -made possible by a great community effort. We would also like to thank the countless individuals who attended meetings, given advice and supported the endeavor.

We must also thank those who have supported the Brixham Lottery ( tickets still available) ; made personal or grant donations- all to help finance the VE event. Once we have honored our commitments we anticipate a financial loss of circa £2,000.

Once we are through these challenging times we must again look to small scale, quick win ,low cost projects or events that will help our community recover from the social and economic impact of COVID 19. All practical ideas or suggestions that can be delivered by volunteers are welcome !

Please circulate this CANCELLATION information as widely as possible.

We thank you again for your support.

Best wishes

John Brennan
Chair-Brixham Future CIC

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day

While  celebrating the end of WW2 in Europe and the freedoms won for all future generations, we also remember the suffering generated by the conflict and the loss of 125 local people and 400,000 nationwide.

On 8th May 2020 it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Years of carnage and destruction had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets to celebrate peace in Europe (the conflict continued in the Far East until 15th August 1945), mourn their loved ones and to hope for the future.

The 75th anniversary will provide our nation, and our friends around the world, with an opportunity to celebrate peace and to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through this dark and terrifying period.

VE Day Parade

On the 8th May 2020 there will be a parade to mark the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. The Parade will be led by Scottish Pipers alongside the Royal British Legion (Brixham Branch) with representative groups from military and civilian organisations throughout the south-west.

Thanksgiving Service

On Sunday 10th May we will mark the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day by giving thanks for the valour and bravery of the sailors, soldiers, airmen, and civilians who gave their tomorrow for our today.
