Shadows - WWI

The Shadows project was completed to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the World War 1 in 2018. It is decorated with 216 poppies, one for each person lost in the town during the 1914-18 war.

About us

Brixham Future Community Interest Company (BFCIC) is a `not for profit` organization. The Company does not conduct business for private gain: any surplus or assets are used principally for the benefit of the community

Established in November 2016 we are entirely volunteer run from local retired or semi-retired professionals.

We are committed to self help and partnership working, addressing local issues such as decline in our town centre. We are interested in delivering small scale, quick win, low cost, fundable micro-regeneration projects or events that benefit Brixham and wider Torbay.

Our Board holds bi-monthly Board Meetings: It has adopted the NCVO Code of Good Governance (26th April 2017). We have a Constitution, Standing Orders, Business Plan and standard policies including Financial, Volunteers, Health & Safety, Risk Management and Safeguarding.

We publish minutes and accounts here on our website, copies below.

We hold public Annual General Meetings.

We seek to be open, transparent and accountable.

The objects of the Company are to carry on activities which benefit the community and in particular (without limitation) to:

1. Regeneration

a) Promote heritage-led regeneration to encourage the restoration of original, historical and sentimental character to heritage assets that, in turn, will encourage the expansion of the economy and the development of jobs for local people.
b) Encourage development of local arts and culture as a tool to stimulate regeneration.
c) Develop projects that contribute to improve the quality of architectural design and the built environment.

2. Environment and sustainability.

a) Develop projectsthat will encourage the preservation of the natural environment.
b) Facilitate behaviours that encourage sustainable development.
c) Encourage preservation of the urban landscape.

3. Health and wellbeing

a) Encourage the wellbeing of local residents by promoting community initiatives.
b) Support existing, local, health and social care initiatives by working on complementary projects.

4. Employment, training and volunteering

a) Ensure all projects chosen promote and encourage training, skills development and employment.
b) Encourage volunteers to participate in any of these defined areas as appropriate

Directors

John Brennan BSC (Hons), Tech IOSH

John’s career has spanned public, private and voluntary sectors including 4 posts as a Chief Executive Officer /Director. He has wide experience of governance, business, finance and risk planning, regeneration, care, support, health and housing services, staff management, new build and property maintenance.

He has successfully delivering on challenges including: leadership and strategic direction; major new build projects; developing new care, health, housing and eco services/projects; raising new resources from the public, private and charitable sectors, ensuring conformity to legal and regulatory codes; devising and delivering detailed budgets; resolving management problems; building stakeholder relationships; motivating and managing varied specialist teams.

John has contributed to conferences, House of Commons Committees and Ministerial discussions . He has been published in reputable journals. He has a Mayor of London award for making an `Outstanding contribution to life in London`. He is passionate about social enterprise. His experience encompasses varied organizations up to 1000 staff.

John is focused on new quality services working in both England & abroad for a wide range of need groups including elders, young people, disabled, mental & physical health.

John holds qualifications from the University of London, the Institute of Housing, and the Institute of Occupational Health & Safety by examinations. He has retired in Brixham for over 15 years.

 

John Rudden

John was born in London and is strongly rooted within the local community. He is a passionate advocate for Brixham and makes an enormous contribution to local life.

John has had a varied career including building services. He has gained widespread knowledge and experience of major project development throughout his career.

He has run his own self build project managing a large team of professional consultants and tradesmen. He is experience in all aspects of project management from inception to practical completions and holds a wide range of professional qualifications.

Frances Robinson LLB (Hons)

Throughout her career Frances has been a planning and development solicitor working for several London Boroughs then at the Greater London Authority and most recently in private practice.

She has been involved in planning at local and strategic level and has a very good understanding of planning policy, development principles, local government procedures and practices and the needs and requirements of developers including technical and financial viability.

While at Beachcroft she acted for a variety of developers including Crest Nicholson and TW, health Authorities, commercial clients including Waitrose and for several local authorities. Over the years she has dealt with and advised on most areas of planning and development law, policy making and application together with highways and environmental issues.
