Win a flight in a WW2 Spitfire

The winning ticket was no 0261 MST.

The public draw took place on Monday 6th May 2019 at the Old Coaching Inn, 61 Fore Street, Brixham.
Sandy Sparkle in 1940’s dress drew the winning ticket.

The lucky winning ticket was purchased in Middle Street, Brixham on a family outing to the town in early part of the year. The winner Frank Sibly from Ledbury, Hertfordshire has passed the opportunity to fly in the period WW2 Spitfire onto his daughter Olivia Sibly. He has decided that the flight would be enjoyed more by his daughter but he is determined to watch as much as possible from the ground.

The winning ticket was one of the 543 tickets sold and raised £2,000 to help fund the free events and exhibitions during the D-Day celebrations from 1st to 9th June in the town.

The Chair of Brixham Future John Brennan says:

We would like to thank all the individuals, retail, other premises, clubs and businesses in Brixham that helped us sell the tickets to residents and visitors alike. It was our first attempt at offering for raffle a high value prize at a reasonable price and odds.

It is great that Olivia Sibly will now take to the skies. I have talked to her and she is looking forward to the day. We have booked the flight for her. We hope she enjoys a great experience. Her flight preserves a vital piece of our national heritage.

We have to thank everyone both in Brixham and further afield who bought a raffle ticket and hope that even if they didn’t win they will enjoy the free D-Day events.

The raffle has now been drawn. The lucky winner will experience an exhilarating flight in the legendary WW2 Spitfire.

The flight will be with Boultbee Flight Academy which is approved by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to fly passengers in vintage planes from Exeter Airport in Devon.

The experience is for 3 hours in either a morning or afternoon slot. The raffle ticket winner will receive briefings about the facility, the aircraft, the flying equipment you’ll be wearing such as helmets, flight suits and parachutes, and you’ll watch a video on flying a vintage Spitfire.

Then you’ll meet your pilot and discuss with him what you’d like to do on your flight, be it a sightseeing tour or some aerobatics or a bit of both.

Airborne time will be roughly 20 minutes. Strap into the aircraft, experience the Rolls-Royce Merlin start and then taxi out for pre-flight checks and take-off.

This experience will see you flying around the Devon area and out along the stunning South Devon coastline. En-route you’ll enjoy the sight of the Spitfire’s famous elliptical wing passing over England’s green and pleasant land, and if you elected to try some aerobatics you’ll marvel at the power, manoeuvrability and grace of this aircraft.

The tickets are in the form of a card with envelope and make an ideal gift, birthday present, or thank-you item.

There is no upper age limit but flyers have to be 18 years of age or older. There are also height, weight and health restriction as it is an historic fighter plane.
